| What We Do |
|
Using our web-based virtual learning environment, Moodle, and conventional email, tutors develop significant relationships with their students. Our tutors act as enablers, rather than teachers, providing tutorial support, encouraging group discussion and evaluating students' assignments. Towards the end of each year, tutors set examinations and write a report on student progress throughout the year. Students complete their assigned work using textbooks, Britannica Online Student Edition, CDROMs and other educational resources. Lessons and assignments are posted in courses on NSUKMoodle, where students can download them and work at times to suit themselves. Work is returned to tutors electronically for marking and comment. At the heart of NorthStarUK is an asynchronous learning model that effectively returns control for learning to the student and their family. This means that tutor-student interaction does not take place in real time.

NorthStarUK is a community of learners working and studying in an online context. It uses the internet to link students with tutors and other students.
