 GCSE examinations are a foundation for much of the formal learning that takes place in later years - from A levels and vocational qualifications to degrees and on the job training.NorthStarUK offers a wide range of subjects at GCSE which can be studied in whatever combination a student wishes - there are no timetable clashes at NSUK! It is often tempting to enrol students in a large number of GCSEs - schools after all enter candidates for as many as eleven or twelve subjects. Whilst we are willing to accept students who enrol for this number, we do encourage parents to reflect on why such a large number of subjects seems necessary. GCSEs should only ever play a part in a child's education and they should not come to dominate the student's life in the way that they seem to for increasing number of school-based students. Home-based learning presents families and their children with unique opportunities to engage in all manner of activities which allow children to develop their gifts and serve the community. We therefore suggest that families consider no more than seven well chosen GCSEs, which will enable students to move onto A levels and find places in high-quality universities if they wish. Please note that special arrangements exist for students wishing to join NorthStarUK to begin studying GCSE Spanish. Students must undertake a test to establish that they possess sufficient prior knowledge and understanding to complete a GCSE course in two years. We can only allow students who achieve a satisfactory mark to study GCSE Spanish with us. |
