| To what degree do parents need to be involved? |
| This is a difficult one to answer without spending some time chatting matters over! A lot depends on the student, their motivation and their previous educational experience. There is certainly no need for a parent to 'stand over' a child as they are working. However, our experience is that children work best on NSUK when they know that mum and/or dad is taking an active interest in what they are learning. So much of learning takes place informally and we do find that children get the most out of NSUK when discussions can take place in the car or over the dinner table. In English, this might mean mum and dad reading the novel or play that their daughter is studying; in history, it might mean chatting about the battles of the western front over dinner! |
